Dear Phil,
Thank you for your mail. Regarding your inquiry, our GPS unit can be used
with a PS/2 extension between the GPS and the USB adapter. The cables are
easy to find and are also cheap. We are currently offering a 6ft long PS/2
extension and if you would like you can use even longer cables. Unlike the
limitatoin of the USB format, you should be able to cover a distance of up
to 50ft using a PS/2 extension without any problem.
Best Regards,
Alex with the Deluo Team

Good point! Maybe the best solution would be to offer a longer cord as an
option?
These guys are usually pretty responsive and I must have sold a bunch of
their units which I feature in my electronic navigation speaking
presentations.

I agree with your basic premise (more cars than boats
- though Deluo clearly markets to boaters on their
website), but still, the cord is too short. I use mine
in a very wide variety of situations - on many, many
different boats and many, many different cars (I rent
a lot of cars). The short cord will be a problem. On
your MT with sloped windshield, theres no problem
having a laptop near the helm and setting the Deluo
forward on the dashboard. Not all helm stations are
laid out that way. If the windows have a reverse rake
to them and a flybridge that overhands substantially
(very common), getting a clear view with a short cord
is impossible.
Hope all is well there Phil.

Peter, Ive had them for 5 years. The newer unit
doesnt need to go
outside. Dash is fine in a car and mine works great
just lying inside the
window on the lower helm. I wrap the usb/pda
connection with self
amalgamating tape to seal it. It syncs about twice
as fast as the old unit
which still runs fine.
I think the bottom line is there are more cars on
the road than boats so
they address that market.

good
I recently ordered a replacement for my 2-year old
Deluo USB-powered GPS. The new unit is smaller,
streamline, and waterproof.
Unfortunately, the connector cable is about half the
length of the old one (the length was not readily
disclosed on the website), too short to route
cleanly
out a car window, and definitely too short to find
clear sky from the pilothouse of a boat. Also, there
is no longer a native USB connector - instead, a
USB/PDA pigtail is included. So while a USB
extension
could be used, it would be far from an elegant
solution, plus USB extensions are expensive, and the
pigtail connection may end up outside and exposed to
spray.
Sadly, I can no longer recommend this otherwise fine
product for marine use (or automotive/laptop for
that
matter - fine for a PDA mounted on dashboard).
What other recent USB GPSs are people using these
days?
