For those of you unfamiliar with this, NOAA has their electronic
navigational charts (ENCs) available free for download. See:
http://chartmaker.ncd.noaa.gov/mcd/enc/download.htm
There are several free viewers available, including one from Fugawi at:
http://www.fugawi.com/viewenc/viewenc.html
The others are listed on the NOAA site.
Version 2 ENCs are suitable for navigation, and meet SOLAS requirements for
ship's nautical chart carriage.
Worth a look.
Also, there are a lot of free downloads available at:
http://pollux.nss.nima.mil/pubs/
These include Chart No. 1, The American Practical Navigator (Bowditch),
International Code of Signals, etc. Good stuff!
