Where to stay in the Mobile area? I second John Esch's suggestion for several reasons. That's where we met eachother, that's where I stayed for 3 weeks (fell so in love with the area I now live there!!!) and it's just a darned nice place! If you stop here give me a call and WE can meet...see the sights eat etc.

Several corrections re the dog River area. The road to it (or the bridge, whatever) is colsed after Katrina and West Marine is no more, same fate.

Next, look into flights to wherever you have to go. Mobile is not a big airport at all and you may want to fly in/out of Pensacola instead.

YOu will find Fairhope a VERY charming place to stop. Lots of charm, shops, etc, and several loopers now live here. Eastern Shore Marine has the laundry, showers you need as well as a courtesy car. I ended up renting an Enterprize car so I could be free to shop (and house hunt...successfully!) I think they still offer a special to people who stay at EAstern Shore. dog River isn't near much of anything that i know of!

A couple of corrections:

Dog River Marina and Grand Mariner both are up and running full steam. The
West Marine store is NOT closed. And the only road closure has been for
repaving, and that was a partial closure only...lanes were left open for
traffic to pass.

I have been there this year and to reconfirm this info I just spoke with Bob
Schwarz at Dog River Marina.

I agree with the airport choice....Pensacola is the better choice and has
better fares. And Fairhope is great.
