TWL: Radar diesel odor and the lap top question

Well, I'm about convinced that the dark screen on the Gateway lap top that I
reported a few days ago is simply the illumination source for the display
being at end of life. Since the Gateway is approaching 5 years old and the new
Toshiba has a much brighter screen, I guess it is time to get a new one.
Thanks for all the advice.

And thanks for the advice on the diesel odor that we HAD while running the
generator. It has gone on for more than a year. There were some good
suggestions on locating the source, but the problem seems to have gone away.
My best guess is it came from unburned fuel in the exhaust, but it puzzles me
how it could get back to the salon on a sun deck boat that has a transom
exhaust, especially at anchor. Anyway, I was seeing some fuel in the Lehman
exhaust and decided to double up on the Mystery Oil as well as push the engine
at 2200 RPM for some hours. This seems to have reduced the fuel in the  Lehman
exhaust and at the same time maybe improved the Onan odor. Thoughts??

Now on to a new subject. We have a Furuno 1931 open array radar which is about
10 years old. I'm guessing it has 1000 or fewer hours on it based on the last
check of the clock. The display, which is always kept inside when not in use,
has started to take a long time to paint a picture at normal brightness. The
message part of the screen seems normally bright instantly, but the radar
return takes about 30 minutes to get to where it should be. Arild, Joe, or
others, any suggestions before I call a technician?
