12/10/10 - Madison -Hammonasset Beach SP - (1:45pm)1 COMMON EIDER,1 SURF SCOTER,1 COMMON GOLDENEYE at the end of the jetty at Meig's Point,NO BARROW'S GOLDENEYE seen,53 PURPLE SANDPIPERS,75+ DUNLIN,and several each SANDERLING,RUDDY TURNSTONES. I walked out to the east end of the point and saw two Harbor Seals and both RED-THROATED and COMMON LOONS. When I returned to the jetty to check again for the Barrow's,a very wet looking PEREGRINE FALCON was sitting there and all the shorebirds were absent.
Guilford-CALLIOPE HUMMINGBIRD seen about 3:15pm sitting in a cedar and then at the feeder. Many thanks to Hank for allowing birders to visit. As Frank Gallo posted, this is a private neighborhood with very narrow streets and almost no parking. Carpooling is a must.
