FWIW, the boat I bought in BC last year came with a high
power analog cell phone (not a bag phone 'cause it has no
battery of its own, but same idea) and this is the reason I
was told: With it, they could call land from the middle of
the straits of georgia. Digitals don't have that kind of
range (especially GSM types like sprint, pacbell...)
You and everyone who corresponed on this subject has been talking
about voice connection with cell-phones. I have no problems with
voice. My phone, s SONY, can do analogue or digital and do it very
well. My problem (and I said this a number of times) is using a cell
phone with an e-mail machine, especially the Sharp TM-20 via
PocketMail. And as I also said: PocketMail works excellently via
landlines, both home, office or payphones.
