Ugh! Da*n! As indicated before I got the vent line cleared. I was all
ready to install the new filter and carry merrily on when I thought to
myself, "you know, you'd better give it a flush before you hook it up
just incase there's a little liquid in that 10" of hose between the tank
and filter. Which I proceeded to do. Whereupon waste began gushing
right out of the drain hose, on top of the tank, down the sides, into
the bilge, and a lot more places besides. And gushing. And gushing.
Yuk. Ewww.
Now I have a tankwatch system with empty / mid / full indicator lights,
and it indicates the mid level. Am I right in thinking that the tank is
actually full to the top, and that's what's causing waste to exit the
vent line? Or what else would cause that to happen? Help!!

The "full" indicator probe is probably gunked up, covered in TP, etc. Clean
it off very well (don't you love these systems?) and see if that fixes it. I
don't have an indicator on my PE tank. I can usually just look down there
and see the level. Sometimes a flashlight pressed against the top of the
tank is needed.
Of course, the tank could have been overfilled in the past and pumped out,
leaving that cr@p in the vent line.

Why do "overlook" and "oversee" mean opposite things?
