SCC Members,

At the past SCC Membership Meeting (5:30PM WED 21FEB2018), the members and board members in attendance decided to discontinue the Salida Classic.

I am very sentimental about this event as it has been a major part of our club for years.

This decision was made because of the declining income year after year, and volunteer burnout.  Participation in road racing is in decline nationwide.  As of the last accounting, we ultimately lost money on an effort that requires a huge amount of volunteer work.

To cancel the 2018 Salida Classic also took some work.

After the 2017 Salida Classic was complete, we started immediately to plan for the 2018 edition - it must happen that far in advance in order to occur.  We were on the 2018 BRAC calendar.  We had a contract with a sports marketing company.  The race director had already put many wheels in motion.

I went about addressing these previous commitments to terminate the 2018 edition.

I just got official word that all of this has been undone.

The option remains for SCC to reconsider this event in the future.

Years back, this event was the major source of income for SCC.  We will be looking at new ways to raise funds going forward.  All ideas in this regard are welcome.

Eric thank you for all your effort over the years. The Salida Classic will be missed, but your message below shows it is wise to let it go.

Oh, this is sad news for sure! But I also understand. I was always so proud
of SCC ( and Eric) for following the road racing dream and making the
Salida Classic happen. It was a great event and hopefully it can be an
event, again, in the future!! Thanks to all who helped!
