How many public art installations can you spot in your neighborhood?

[Tacoma Arts Month 2018]

TACOMA ARTS MONTH

We're halfway through Tacoma Arts Month and there are still many art events left to go! With all of this nice weather, one delightful way you can engage in art this October is by... well, walking down the street! New public installations, such as Sheila Klein's "Way" (see below), and artwork at the new Eastside Community Center (opening party is this Saturday) are just a few examples of the ways in which Tacoma artists activate community spaces.

For more information, go to TacomaArtsMonth.comhttp://www.tacomaartsmonth.com or check out each presenter's website.

Art is Everywhere.
[sheilaklein way]

Art is everywhere you look in Tacoma and sometimes in places you’d least expect it, like WAY, created by Sheila Klein (pictured above). WAY draws attention to the heart of the South Tacoma Business District, emphasizing the crosswalks at 54th and 56th Streets in this busy thoroughfare. Two strings of obstruction markers acts as a set of pearls and oversized finials cap the painted light posts. WAY was installed this spring and was generously funded through a partnership with State Farm and Local Initiatives Support Corporation as part of their community revitalization efforts. Additional funding was provided by the South Tacoma Business District through a City of Tacoma Innovative Grant.
