Hello all!
Yesterday we "closed" on our new home, a 33' CHB trawler. We have been checking in with the trawler list at the website for awhile, and just subscribed to the digest format. Today the first load of stuff gets delivered aboard (we live in Deer Harbor, Washington, aboard a Baba 30 cutter, but our new home currently resides at Semiahmoo, a resort at the Canadian border), and next week we bring
her home.
It has been an interesting, and at times gut-wrenching, experience making the mental and emotional switch from sailing liveaboards to trawler life (health reasons, as well as coming to the realization that neither of us likes to be outside and underway in inclimate weather), but now that the hard part is behind us, we are both truly looking forward to this new lifestyle. I had written to you
guys some months ago about our situation, and have received several supportive and reasuring responses, for which I belatedly thank you.
It is amazing to think of how much more "stuff" we can comfortably stow in 3 more feet, and the thought of having doors separating the 3 separate cabins ... with big windows ...and a refrigerator instead of an icebox, a microwave, and ... thank you God ... hot and cold pressure water and a shower ... well, it makes my heart sing just writing about it.
We are hopefully going to be at the Poulsbo Trawlerfest next June, and in the meantime will enjoy reading the list offerings and tapping into whatever reference areas we can find. I see a few names on this list that I recognize from the liveaboard list ... hi, Louise.
Thanks for being there, guys.
