If you go directly to Key West, or Grand Cayman, this is a most
difficult passage, since you will be bucking into the trade winds and
seas all of the way. I strongly advise against taking this course. I
only know of a very limited number of boats which have made this
passage, and the vast majority would not try it again.
The prudent trip is to San Andres, or Provendia, thus to Roatan,
Belize and Isla Majeres or along the Columbia/Venzuela Coast, thus to
the Eastern Caribbean and across the island chain to Bahamas and
Florida.
