In one word rot. Teak is used on boats because it provides the best natural
rot resistance. Check out this link and look under Marine Lumber
http://www.woodmatters.com/newsletter.html. The woods you mentioned may be a
reasonable and more economical alternative, but I don't think they would
last as long as teak.
