Colleagues: Please forgive a query that is not directly related to our field, but fully relevant. I have recently moved to a new PC with Windows 10. Naturally, little is the same as it was.
My problem is the Microsoft Chinese pack. How do I get it to default to 繁体字? On the language bar in Windows 7 (old computer) there was an option to prioritize traditional over simplified, but I cannot find this in the new language bar. The traditional are there, but I have to scroll through every simplified option first… very annoying and time consuming!
If anyone knows how to resolve this, I would be very appreciative.

Hi Hugh
You can download the Google Pinyin Input. It's easier to use than
Microsoft. You can transition between simplified and traditional by
pressing a key.

According to the page for it on Google Play, it only works in Android.
But I haven't tried it.

Hugh,
Since Windows 8, Microsoft has shown its colors. Traditional is there,
but they make it inconvenient. I use the Windows key+Space to cycle
through the input methods I have. For my preferred input, array-30, I then
have to remember to strike Shift to then go from English to Chinese. (I
have not used Google because I worried that its learning function sends all
typed keys to the mothership for processing, but maybe I am just being
overly cautious.)

Looks like there's both an app and a version for Windows.
Googling for it now, I found this website that offers instructions on
downloading Googe Pintyin Input.

Hugh,
In Windows 10, the Taiwan pinyin input mode is buried a bit. In Settings, go to Time and Languages. I gather you already have added Traditional Chinese. Click on the language pack to set its options:
[cid:image001.jpg@01D63FDB.71D94360]
Under Options for the Taiwan language pack, add the Bopomofo keyboard:
[cid:image002.jpg@01D63FDB.71D94360]
Click on the Bopomofo keyboard to set its options. In its options, select the HanYu Pinyin layout (if that is your preference):

And off you go.

Yes, Microsoft certainly makes it difficult. I started with the
instructions at Pinyin Joe's:

Here's how I do it:
