Boat Name Removal

Hello All,

I need to remove the old name from the boat to make room for the new name.
Black paint on white fiberglass gelcote.  It seems to me that I read some
where that using Easy Off oven cleaner works best, but it needs to be
unscented variety.  Do I have the facts straight, and is there anything
special I should know about, about doing this project.  Any & all suggestions
will be greatly appreciated.

plain Easy Off indeed works well...  wet, spray, let it sit a minute,
scrub, rinse, repeat if needed.  do a section at a time.

works for paint on gelcoat as well as paint on Imron/algrip

wear gloves!

Easy Off works...but be careful.  I used it to remove a painted name from
Awlgrip and it left a white ghosting and halo that required me to repaint
that area.  On white gelcoat probably not a problem but I would advise,
doing a small area and testing.

Yep, you got it right. Not sure if it requires unscented or not. I used
this method on the transom of my old boat. The name bubbled up and
sloughed off fairly easily. Requires a good compounding and rewax due to
a ghost image left on the fiberglass, which faded after a couple of year
or two.
