Transition to Power

Making the move from sail to power, Really want a Huckins 44 Atlantic or another brand of Express cruiser.  I'm Tired of going 5-8 knots, so a trawler type is not my first choice. That said I have practical concerns and need your opinions.1) Wondering if this class of powerboat is going to be very noisy and limit conversation between me and the admiral. I'm pretty deaf already and my sailboat's engine is, of course, down below and I'm up top driving, engine noise is barely audible at the helm.2) Although fuel range will dictate my route, wondering how an Express will handle a sea voyage as far as Grenada, island hopping from the  East Coast of  Florida.3) I've always been on a full keel sailboat and trashing through whatever was never a problem.  Not sure the ride or the seakeeping ability of a keel-less "planing" powerboat will be a good idea for such a trip
As I said, 20 years of sailing a 44' cutter makes me wonder about the wisdom of my new choice.  At least, I know, I don't know!
Thanks, Russ Davignon

Russell, can't respond to your specific questions about the Huckins, but
glad to see that you're converting. 8 knots... we've never seen that, but 5
isn't bad; it just takes longer. Going deaf? We've got the same problem
with both our eyes and ears, especially Jill.

Russell, we made that transition from a Cape Dory 36 to an Albin 36 twin diesel trawler three years ago. I want to go back. I would rather do less on a good sail boat than do more on a powerboat. The only place the trawler outshines the sailboat is in a canal. I hate the noise, the stink, the need to be an engineer. I loved the ambiance of sailing, even if I had no destination in mind. I don’t even want to take the trawler out. I would sell it in a minute if I could get my wife to agree. (And I see no advantage to going faster.)

My biggest concern would be fuel capacity!
