Can anyone recommend a source for buying the right hand tool for applying
canvas snap fasteners?
I've been using the die and hammer method and I'm not getting a nice
mushroom spread on the center pin. I have bought and used two of the
cheap ($7.50) kits and I know I have ruined a greater value in fasteners
than what these flimsy tools cost. Ruined a few fingers and thumbs as
well!
The plier type tool is supposedly 100% effective.

I have the little kit that you put the dies on the end of a pair of vice
grips. Works great! You can find them at Boat/U.S. or any decent ship's
store.

I bought a kit at Boat U.S. for pressing on snap fasteners. It consists of
two plastic dies that fit over the jaws of a vice grip plier. They work for
me.
