We have two 7 cu ft chest freezers and 3 cu ft front door refrigerator running
on inverters. The refrigerator is useless and gets used as a breadbox. One
freezer is plugged in about 6 hrs a day and is used as a deep freeze and works
great. We keep several large containers of water frozen and move them to the
other chest freezer to use as a refrigerator and they keep a steady 40 degree
temp in the unit. If needed we plug it in for 40 minutes on a timer to chill it
down. Sounds complicated but it really isn't and we have lots of storage. The
chest freezers cost $200 at Sams Club. We run a battery bank of 4 8Ds with a 20K
northern lights that runs 3 hrs a day.
That allows us to load up a lot of food when we can get to a Costco.
