We had a great response in terms of interest and on a planning call today decided to ask: Would you prefer to go to a small or smaller city where the issues will be apparent from a site visit or to a large city where the issues may be masked by other urban issues? We'd be looking at trying to get CLE credit for up to about 5 topics, hold the meeting on a full day with a reception the evening before. We're looking at how to keep our costs low so your costs will be low both for registration fees, flight and hotel. So, give me your thoughts, so we can work on planning. If at all possible we're looking at moving quickly to try something in August. Honestly, that may be too ambitious but we're going to try. Chuck

I am open to any location. I imagine it's true that the sheer volume and
intensity of competing issues in a large city would tend to crowd out town
gown concerns (although not necessarily all). It seems to me that the
nature of the issues a city is dealing with is more important, and whether
they lend themselves to being "experienced" or seen, not the size of the
city. Participation and sharing of problems and solutions is most important
in my mind than where this is held.

Great question. Issues are similar, but could be masked or potentially exacerbated by larger cities. If keeping costs lower is a worthy consideration, then perhaps a smaller city may provide that to a greater degree - as long as there's a fairly easy flight.
My thoughts.

Susana Wood, the City Attorney of Sacramento, and I (City Attorney for Davis) were wondering if the Sacramento area might be a good conference location – there is UC Davis, which a large school in a small city, Sacramento State (a Cal State University campus) a large school in Sacramento, numerous community college sites operated and other college campuses. If the group thinks this might be a good location please let Susana and me know as I would want to first check with the city of Davis and also UC Davis before confirming our availability and Susana may wish to talk to the Sacramento colleges.
