Hi, All!
We need to replace the furniture in our salon; chair and L-shaped sofa. I am
not having much luck in locating places that sell the size furniture we need
for the boat. The regular furniture is all too large.
Any suggestions on sources for this kind of stuff?
Thanks,
Ken Tischler

Ken,
We replaced our furniture almost a year ago. We bought Flexsteel (OEM for
Carver and Silverton) from the local dealer. The factory will not sell
direct. When our furniture arrived, there were some 'problems' with the
fabric install as well as a couple screw problems. I figured with the price
it would of been perfect. I was wrong. Sort of felt ripped off, but it
does look and we've had a bunch of compliments. Our distributor made a lot
of false claims about repairing it and never showed and always had an excuse
or reason. Regardless, I got out my monel staples and stopped at Lowes to
pick up a few blind nuts. Fixed it myself. After a year, still holding up
well. Easy to take apart (L couch has the top come off, made it easy to get
into the boat as well as I can take it apart and move myself to get to the
engine hatches-flushdeck MY). Very expensive. We are just starting
cosmetics on our boat and rather than have something that 'works', we wanted
yacht quality. The quality may not be completely there, but sure does look
nice and is comfortable.
After I ordered our stuff (took about 8 weeks for delivery), a fellow at the
marina said he had someone come out and take apart his 'apartment' sized
furniture to install in the boat. I've never seen it but he was pleased
with it.
With my adventure, I was thinking about starting up a 3/4 sized furniture
plant. Just didn't have the heart in it but I feel it would be a viable
business. If you go Flexsteel, look it over before you take final delivery.
I've heard sometimes they have quality issues as it was in our case.
We are on the Chesapeake Bay. Don't know where your are but don't deal with
my distributor.
Best of luck!
Chris

We had the same problem, but wanted full sized furniture. We solved it by
getting Wall Hugger recliners that were supposed to be part of a full
living room suite, but only ordered part of the suite, e.g. one end has an
arm, the other doesn't. They fit perfectly, and we are totally satisfied
with them after two years. You might try looking for something like that.
If that doesn't work, mobile home/trailer house furniture is often smaller
than standard.
Good luck, take care, be safe and enjoy the Holidays!
