Ted & Helen!
We did some research recently in anticipation of Wintering over in the
Mobile area. Here is what we found:
- .Dog River Marina- At the entrance of DogRiver & West shore of Mobile
Bay. Working yard (you would have to check about owner doing work in their
yard?), West Marine Store on site, open & some covered slips, fuel,
resturant on site (I think?), but no close stores as I remember.....Contact
Owner Sonny Middleton, the 70+ year old owner who comes to work every day
(per employees), @(251)473-5327
- Grand Mariner Marina - Just across the river, from Dog River Marina, a
low key laid back moorage that alot of peole like, cheap -daily @$0.60/ft.,
then15% less after one week, & $6.00/ft + Elec. on a Monthly rate! I liked
this place, but it is out in the boonees & neighborhood leading in is so-so!
Ed & Louise Carlson, owners, @ (251) 443 - 6300
- Sportsman Marina - At Orange Beach , Al on the ICW just East of Mobile
Bay & West of Perdido Bay. More modern marina, cost about $500 / month,
small yard but don't know about owner work on boat?, resturant on site (?),
nicer neighborhood, but no facilities within walking distance. Clean , nice
marina!
- Bear Point Marina - Haven't seen this one, but others on this site say
it's nice. Close to the above Marina, Contact Jason Armour, Dockmaster, @
(251) 981 - 2327
- Saunders Yachtworks - Nice clean , small working yard with good
mechanical service and highly recommended by local boating people! I doubt
they allow owner work, in the Orange Beach area also, contact 800) 392 -
2487, (251) 981 - 3700
Good luck,
KenT

Subject: GL: Boat yards near Mobile Bay
We'll be reaching Mobile Bay the middle of November and will need to be
pulled and then be able to paint the bottom and do other things while out
the water. Then we'll be looking for a marina to leave the boat for 6 to 8
weeks before heading for Florida. Any recommendations?
We're currently in Green Bay, WI hoping to leave for Chicago and south

Bear Point is a nice friendly marina right on the ICW but they do not have
any repair facilities or haul-out.
Great eats though!
