Cruising America's Great Loop and other inland routes
View all threadsYou can leave your boat at any marina from Pebble Isle Marina near mile 96 on
the Tennessee River south to Mobile. You'd need to keep a light on in the
engine room or have one of those thermostat or timer controls to turn on a
heater. We stayed the winter at Columbus Marina because the airport is near,
and access is easy. We also stayed most of a winter at Grand Mariner Marina on
the Dog River outside of Mobile. There you wouldn't need a light in engine
room. The trip from Chicago to Mobile would take 3 weeks.

Thanks to all who replied to my question of waterway closings heading north
from Kentucky Lake to lake Erie.
I may decide to head south instead. How far down the system to Mobile Bay do
I
need to go, so that I can lay up my boat without winterizing it? I don't
have
all winter to stay on it, but would like spend some time on it to get to
know
my new to me boat.
Any thoughts on possible marinas as well would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Roly.
