Question: What's the advantage(s) in running a diesel closer to its peak
torque?(higher RPM) Doesn't that imply faster wear and tear??

I am going to tackle a little project that expands on the recent boat name
list that Bob McLeran put together for all of us and wanted to get some
feedback from the listees on it...
What I am going to establish is a web-based database that contains the
initial data that Bob put together and make it available via a website. The
data could be easily maintained by the boat owners themselves by accessing
the website via username/password access. The data could be viewed and
searched on the website and it could even be exported into a CSV file and
downloaded and then it can easily be imported into many other applications
such as Excel, Access, etc...
What I would like as feedback is the information that would be incorporated
into the database... I currently have Bob's List and will use that to start
with it contains...
Boat Name
Boat Length
Boat Year
Boat Make
Boat Model
Boat Location
Owners Name
What I really want to hear from you is what other information would you like
to see in this database? Also, your general thoughts, ideas, suggestions on
this project.

Jay's idea has merit. The only thing I might add is the MMSI number
attached to the DSC Radio (if installed)to enable members to make digital
contact while cruising. For Canadian members of the group, you will also
require a Privacy Statement and positive approval to publish the personal
information on the database. I'm not sure on the privacy issue in the US or
elsewhere.

Another thing that I would love comments and suggestions on is the
public/restricted aspect of the data... what do you think should be publicly
accessible and what should be restricted to database members only?

I will be registering a domain name to use with this boat database
website... please send your suggestions on what you think would be a good
domain name?

Folks,
While I can appreciate the good intentions of those who feel compelled
to organize databases such as this one and the boat names list, as a
matter of principle, I am categorically opposed.
There are too many people and organisations keeping track of us as it
is. Our privacy is rapidly being invaded by everyone and his dog, for
control, commercial, trivial and nefarious reasons.
Just my opinion; flame away.

Jay, this list needs to be somewhat protected and semi-private. We had to sign up to access the trawler&trawlering forum, the same should be in effect for this forum, just my $.02...GEH
