Today while visiting a ham radio flea market in DL I stumbled on Qty 2 of the Datum PRS-45 Cs standards. Like on the picture below. Asking price was €500, both units were powered up and showed a green Lock LED.
My guess is they will A. not sell today and B. show up again in NL (seller was a Dutch guy) so I am wondering if this is a sensible price for such a unit? Worth having? Any wild guess on remaining life expectancy?

Well a lock is a lock. Thats better than nothing. But beyond that its hard
to say what the life may be on the tube.
There was a brief thread on time-nuts 9 years ago and amazingly it was
someone in the Netherlands selling the unit. Apparently not a lot of
information is available for these units.
If the price was 100 Euro I would take the risk. 500 is a question. Is the
output 5 or 10 MHz? Some of the telco units put out telco specific
frequencies.

Hi
Reasonable price? Yes, very much so.
Worth having? Depends on your needs. Many list members would say yes.
Live expectancy? Two weeks to 10 years :). There’s never a way to even guess without at least reading out the running hours
numbers (if they are stored away in that version….).
Best options: Buy both of them or none of them. Having spare parts (like a spare tube) is a really good thing.

hi Bob,
Unfortunately both were stashed at the bottom of a pile of equipment making any real inspection impossible. I'll keep an eye out on the usual online Dutch market places in case they resurface there. Maybe one of the list members would be interested?
As for my own needs: I own an ex-NATO sat groundstation Efratom MRK HLN Rb, as well as two Samsung telco-surplus OCXO. "Should do". That said... Cs remain fascinating to me ;-)

Hi
Reading out the running hours would mean hooking up a PC and doing this and that to get
the information out of the device. Best guess: the typical seller isn’t going to go that far. At
the listed price, they are a fine deal.
