We put up to 150 tons of batteries aboard our luxury submarines,
which amounts to about 10% of displacement. As long as they are not
allowed to overheat we expect about 2500 deep cycle charges. We
literally can run for days submerged or sit on the bottom for weeks
with just hotel load.
No one is recreating the wheel here. It's all older tried and true
technology. In my view there is no reason to run a generator at
anchor unless you are there for a protracted period of time or you
have a very weight sensitive vessel.
