A good source of info is RiverBills.com? he usually has all the water stages posted for Alton, IL?and above the locks at Alton. He has updates from the Corp of Eng. also.?

See below, latest posting on USCG Eighth District web site.  Only about 20
miles of river remained closed before the weekend.  Also check NOAA sites
for latest river stages, Peoria and Henry are still about 10 ft. above
normal pool.

Fuel docks at some Peoria area marinas have limited access.  Dockage is also
at a premium as boats have started down, but with the high water, it is easy
to find an anchorage.  Use extreme caution with any floating Navaids, they
are scattered all along the river.  We were kayaking near Lacon on Sunday
afternoon, 2 green cans came downstream at about 4 kts.  Watch your wake,
many homes are still exposed to any wave action.

Coast Guard closes portion of the Illinois River

ST. LOUIS - The Coast Guard Captain of the Port (COTP) for the Upper
Mississippi River has reduced the river closure on the Illinois River
Friday, Sept. 26, 2008 and has re-opened another portion.

The last closure from mile marker 50 to 180.9 has been changed to mile
marker 80.3 to 101.9.  The additional closure between mile markers 136 to
138 has been reopened to all traffic."
