You and other listees might be interested in what we're doing on the
new Nordhavn
for backup steering.  we're adding a second steering cylinder to the
steering arm,
with a separate reservoir and autopilot pump.

Russ, I will be installing the ultimate, low tech, maintenance free,
inexpensive, fail proof emergency steering system on my boat.  It is
called an emergency tiller.  There is a deck plate in the aft cockpit
that accesses the top of the rudder post.  The emergency tiller mates to
a key way on the top of the rudder post.  No muss, no fuss.

Old sail boaters never die........they just lose the wind in their sails.

Have that too. Just not very convenient to actually use it.

It always seems that these emergency tiller set-ups are in weird or
awkward places.
Would a tiller pilot with a long cord and handheld controller make it
easier to use?  x
