Randal,
On August 15, I berthed in Friday Harbor for the night and the most
beautiful Diesel Duck I have seen was moored on the outer breakwater.
We even made the long walk out there to admire the boat. I am sure
she must be a lot like yours. I have a Nordhavn and know Jim Leishman
fairly well. I am sure that he is happy that his advice helped you
find the cruising boat that best fits your life style even if it
wasn't a Nordhavn. The same can not be said for all people in the
industry. The year before I took delivery of my boat we attended the
Annapolis Boat Show. I was on a Fleming 55 and was admiring what a
well built and beautiful boat it was. I stopped and complimented one
of the company representatives and asked a couple of questions about
the boat. He was very nice right up until he asked me about my
boating plans and I told him that I had a Nordhavn on order. Suddenly
things turned nasty and he basically threw me off his boat for wasting
his time.
With regard to barnacles on the prop, I use a product called Prop
Speed which works very well. I have had very little in the way of
growth on my running gear with the prop speed. The first application
was the best and and didn't need to be redone for nearly five years.
The second application was a year and a half ago in Hawaii. I wasn't
thrilled with their process and just had it redone a month ago. The
bottom line is that the product works very well but proper application
is essential. It may be one of those things you should do yourself
just to get it right.

Funny... I had the same thing happen with the Fleming folks.
We met up with a fairly new DD named SeaDuction a few times this
summer in AK, and she was a beauty. Not sure if that was the same boat
you saw in Friday. If I hadn't been able to buy my Nordhavn, I'd
absolutely own a Duck today. They just make sense to me, and the
pricing is incredibly good.
Interestingly, when we got away from most of the other powerboats, out
in the real wild of AK and northern BC (not the usual Highway), we saw
a couple of Ducks out there, along with plenty of Nordhavns, a couple
of Kady's and a single Selene. Given how few Ducks are on the water,
that was remarkable. They're built to travel wide, and they do.
