One other little trick about S&T 2003. One of the deliberate (built-in)
limitations is its update cycle. It will only update from the GPS about
every 10 seconds. As MS would say "It's not a navigation program, it's
a planning and route program". So when driving a car, 10 seconds is way
too long. There is a third-part hack available out there to make it
update every second or so.
Otherwise I agree, it's a great little program for navigating in a car.

I'm sure others have found this already but I just purchased Microsoft's
Streets and Trips 2003. Not more than 20 minutes later I plugged my
Garmin 12 GPS into my laptop, drove down the street with a "map plotter"
AKA Chart plotter with all of the roads, streets, etc for ALL of the US
including Alaska and Canada.
SNIP
I've been using DeLorme Street Atlas in a similar fashion to Bob and it
seems to update about once a second, and has voice output of route data,
e.g., "turn right .1 mile, 3rd street".
It's more expensive, though.
