Paul,

You wanted to know about marinas on the Okeechobee Waterway.

I highly recommend stopping at the Indiantown Marina. It is very secure
from any bad weather, and the variety of boats and hailing ports from
around the world (predominantly Canadian) will surprise you. However,
this is one of the few places to leave your boat during the hurricane
season, and Canadian insured boats HAVE to be there.

I also suggest timing your stopover for a Saturday night, when the marina
has its traditional free barbecue. Guests usually bring a covered dish,
while the marina provides the grille items, and sometimes it's alligator!
It's a very festive event and the atmosphere is conducive to meeting
fellow voyageurs.

As a member of the St. Lucie Sailing Club, we usually have at least one
cruise every year to Indiantown and that is why I know the folks are
great to deal with.

I have no financial interest; just passing on a tip per your request.

Thisis my first time posting to this forum as well as my first time
being
(about to be) a trawler owner.  I would like to take a moment and
introduce
myself.  I am Paul Saltzman and My wife, Joyce Washor are about to
embark
on bringing our 1988 Marine Trader 34' DC home from Fl.  The boat is
presently named "DREAM CATCHER" but we think we will be gong through
the
ceremony of renaming it to "AWANATA" (a native American word for
TURTLE).
Seems appropriate.

Awanata lies in Naples Fl. and we plan on doing the ICW to bring her
home.
I understand that last year was a bad year for the Caloosahatchee
River,
Lake Okeechobee and St. Lucie Canal in the way of no water.  Who
should I
contact and when to find out conditions for the trip that we hope to
begin
in May.  Any advise on where to stay along the way either anchoring
or
marinas?  as well as any suggestion for the trip home after that.  I
did
the ICW from St. Augustine home in 1997 but that was i9nside and
outside
runs, whereas this is to be inside only.

That's us, newbies in the WORLD OF TRAWLERS.  Thanks.

The following URL for the Army Corp of Engineers, in Jacksonville,

I have in Jax are:

Regarding Green Turtle Bay,
Of the last LOOPer group that came through (fall 2001) we were
surprised to
hear that the courtesy vehicle is now $5.00/HALF HOUR !
Evidently there are other changes also...so check it out.  Things
change
from year to year and that can be a problem when sharing info.
We had stayed at this marina several times and had a great
experience too
but were a little dishartened to hear of their experiences.

List,
Just one more example of the listee not listing subject matter in
the
"subject" line. If I were wanting to look up info on this marina in
the
archives it would be impossible because of the way this post was
made.
Back to the subject. Came thru Green Turtle Bay in mid December and
this was
not the case.
Cheers,
