All hands--
I'm delighted to announce that a special forum has been created at
TrawlerCrawler.net for ActiveCaptain users to pose their questions and
post their comments, and get all the detailed answers they could
possibly want from Jeff Siegel.

There is of course no ban on ActiveCaptain discussions on T&T List*
but it has become apparent that a number of users want and need way
more information about ActiveCaptain than is possible to convey here.
The special forum gives Jeff Siegel the opportunity to provide
detailed customer service responses and promotional information about
new features and new capabilities without any of the commercial
restrictions of T&T List. The bonus is that the potential audience at
Web-based TrawlerCrawler.net is much bigger than via this email
medium. The icing on the cake is it's all free, free to ActiveCaptain
users and free to Active Corporation.
I personally have nothing against ActiveCaptain and its related
products. In fact, not so long ago, I posted an enthusiastic feature
on Jeff and Karen Siegel at Trawlers & Trawlering <http://www.trawlersandtrawlering.com/news/activecaptain.html
. More so, I occasionally use ActiveCaptain Mobile that I purchased
two years ago.
But I am adamant that no one product should dominate discussions on
T&T List the way Active Captain has, and that my obligation to 2,100
subscribers and hundreds of supporters is to keep the List commercial-
free.

*There continues to be no such ban, as witnessed by the preceding post
by Jeff Siegel himself. In that post, Jeff asserts: "I've been
threatened
with a review of every post I make before it is allowed to be put up."
That is quite a twist of the facts. There has never been any attempt
to muzzle Jeff on "every post" he makes. At first, Jeff was asked to
tone down the promotional nature of his posts about his products. When
he posted a lengthy explanation of something at ActiveCaptain, which
sounded an awful lot like a customer service letter, I asked Jeff, to
avoid problems in the future, to fly any such future postings about
his products by me or Listmaster Bob McLaren. It's the kind of request
List Admin frequently makes of people in the marine business to avoid
problems such as the current commotion. Often, such requests are
received in a positive manner and everyone lives happier ever after.
But, alas, not this time.
