Hello all,

Citizens for a Healthy Bay has been researching a natural gas to methanol
plant proposed for construction within the Port of Tacoma by the Chinese
firm Northwest Innovation Works. This is one of three plants proposed by
the firm within the Pacific Northwest, and would be the largest methanol
production facility in the world if constructed. Construction would begin
as soon as 2017, with initial operations starting in 2020. Methanol would
be shipped overseas to China, where it would be used in the manufacture of
plastics.

The plant is currently entering the first phase of its environmental review
and public comments are being accepted by the City of Tacoma from Dec. 19th
to Feb. 17th. There will also be two public hearings on January 21st
and February
16th. This first phase of the review will determine the issues that will be
explored in an Environmental Impact Statement. You can view the city's
webpage for the environmental review at http://bit.ly/1mg7iic.

Citizens for a Healthy Bay has compiled an extensive fact sheet on the
plant, which includes the most up-to-date statistics on production,
potential environmental considerations and other available information
relevant to the community. This can be found and downloaded at
http://bit.ly/1LIQTbb.

Please read our fact sheet if you are interested in learning more. You can
also email Ryan Cruz at rcruz@healthybay.org to subscribe to our mailing
list for updates or 'like' our Facebook page "CHB's Information Hub for
Proposed Methanol Plant in Port of Tacoma".

This is a significant issue that stands to affect our community
both economically and environmentally. We want to spread information to as
many community members as possible so they can make their own informed
decisions. Thank you for staying informed.
