Population is composed of approximately 150 painted portraits rendered in lush layers applied to glass. The initial subjects were Turner's family, friends and acquaintances-the network of people who populate his life. In 2011, Turner visited Tacoma and photographed members of the community whose portraits will be included in the exhibition. Ongoing Exhibitions Museum of Glass 10th Aniversary Exhibition Maestro: Recent Works by Lino Tagliapietra <http://museumofglass.org/exhibitions/maestro-lino-tagliapietra> Organized by Tagliapietra Studio Sponsored by Russell Investment and Jim Schantz and Kim Saul Through January 6, 2013 Maestro showcases 65 glass masterpieces created by Tagliapietra during the past decade (2002-2012). The works demonstrate the artist's evolution to larger works and use of bolder colors and patterns over his nearly fifty year career. Six large-scale installations, featuring colorful butterflies (Borboleta), boats (Endeavor), seagulls (Gabbiani), two separate collections of shields (Masai), and Avventura which contains nearly one hundred opaque glass vessels. The exhibition comprises four installations, or rooms, based on the Hindu belief that the world is a series of disks made up of wind, water and earth upon which float four continents in a vast circular ocean. The de Santillanas have interpreted elements of this cosmology in glass, creating spaces in which forms and colors correspond to physical phenomenon. All of the works in the exhibition were executed in the Museum of Glass Hot Shop during two Visiting Artist residencies in 2010.
