The question was asked whether to buy foam or inner spring. My vote would be inner spring if comfort is belived to be equal. Inner spring mattresses provide better insulation between you and the surface below the mattress, Therefore, you less likely to have condensation problems under your mattress. When selecting a mattress comfort has to be your first criteria. This not always easy to judge at a boat show exhibit, so use your own home mattress as a starting point. If you like a pillow top medium firm mattress at home, get a similar one for the boat. Someone asked about Hand Craft Mattresses the other day and why choose them. For us, we had a past history with their product. Also asked was why not the $900 matress made by the mattress company down the road. That may be perfect for you, but most of us don't have a mattress company down the road. Even if we did, I belive their are differences when compared to HCM or other boat mattress manufactures. The boat mattresses can be hinged, have a mositure barrier on the bottom, and are said to have coated inner springs. With HCM, they came to the boat and measured and even took into consideration the angle required to perfectly fit the head end of the bed. Choose what's comfortable or put up with a cranky admiral that's not had a good night's sleep in a few days. Usual disclaimers on HCM, just a satisfied customer.
