Although I have to read "between the lines" it would appear that there are
some assumptions made that might not be correct. When you say the seacock
was open, did you actually check its flow with the hose off of it? And if
that was good, did you check the flow at the pump--and out of it? The bad
news is that it is amazing what gets into raw water lines, clogs them and
then abruptly gets passed through..
BTW my absolutely all-time worst experience was when I had an eel swim up
into an unguarded water intake to the AC pump and die in the line between the
through-hull and the basket filter. I have repaired clogged heads but
nothing was worse than this job--I seriously considered not using the AC and
laeving it there to rot and slowly decompose....i finally just held my breath
and did the fix, then dove under the boat and installed a perforated bronze
guard over the intake. And forget about the sea nettles--that is a whole
'nother problem.
The good news, by the way, is that it will probably happen again!
