Lincoln University of Missouri celebrated the grand opening of its newest School of Nursing simulation training center in St. Robert with a ribbon-cutting last month. The 11,500-square-foot facility boasts a simulation lab, several large classrooms, a computer lab and a resource lab for use by its Fort Leonard Wood students.
"This is where we will inspire the next generation of nursing leaders," said Lincoln University President John B. Moseley in his remarks at the ribbon-cutting. "The education our students have had in these recent years since COVID-19 is unprecedented and I am continually amazed by their resilience."
Lincoln Provost Michael J. Self noted that the simulation laboratory will provide Lincoln nursing students the chance to practice nursing skills and experience lifelike simulation events, which will prove invaluable when they enter their clinical training in hospital settings. Simulations offer students the opportunity to think critically about the nursing process and to collaborate with peers, giving them time to build confidence and hone the skills they will use later on live patients.
The St. Robert facility, located at 194 Eastlawn Ave. in St. Robert, is an addition that expands the scope of the Lincoln University School of Nursinghttps://www.lincolnu.edu/school-of-nursing/index.html program at Fort Leonard Wood. Established on the military base in 1989, Lincoln's satellite campus at Fort Leonard Wood serves active-duty military, their spouses and veterans, as well as civilian residents of Pulaski, Laclede, Phelps, Texas and Dent counties. The nursing program there offers the Associate of Applied Science degree in nursinghttps://www.lincolnu.edu/school-of-nursing/nursing-programs/aas.html, plus an LPN to RN transition program and RN to BSN post-licensure completion. Evening and weekend options accommodate active-duty soldiers, veterans, military dependents and nontraditional civilian students. AAS students complete their clinical training at local hospitals along the Interstate 44 corridor.
"Our students continue to rise to every challenge, thanks to our caring faculty, and obtain top scores on their state nursing board exams," Self said. But more importantly, our future nurses enter our program as students and conclude with their pinning ceremony as 'family,' full of heart for the demands that face them. Nurses are called to serve and our Lincoln family is honored to prepare them here with quality facilities."
