TWL: RE: Forfjord Anchors

Hi Dave:

I'm really sorry, but it is a Federal offense to ship a Forfjord anchor out
of any State bordering the Pacific Ocean.  Any Forfjord anchors found on any
vessel west of the Great Divide are subject to immediate confiscation and
return to Washington State (where they are made).

SOZ had to obtain a special permit from the USCG, the Federal Anchor Control
Commission and the Forfjord Preservation Society of the PNW.  If you look
carefully at that picture, you might see a small metal tag affixed to the
anchor with the permit numbers showing.  Either that or it was an optical
illusion created by a deep inner sense of desire to see a "true" anchor.

We have one on our Tolly.  It works great but don't quote me, it's also a
misdemeanor here, to praise a Forfjord except to another fellow owner of
one.  So you didn't hear it from me.

The large drum arrangement with wire and chain is very common with the
Alaska fishermen and many other West Coast fishermen.  We see them
everywhere here.  It's the best system of all for deepwater anchoring in all
conditions.  A great system, but not exactly suited to  the foredecks of
elegant cruisers.  But many robust custom trawler types carry that system.

In the ongoing saga of the travels of Spirit of Zopilote. I noticed its
anchor arrangement.

We don't joke about things like this here in upper left corner.  Nor about
the rain which falls at least 362 days each year.  Or about the fog that
makes driving impossible -- we have to install boat radar systems in our
cars.

Why, just last week we had a serious situation down town with people in a
panic and near to rioting.  The sun had come out, but since no one had ever
seen it before it was taken to be a UFO and...well, it wasn't a pretty
situation, I can assure you.

And I haven't even gotten to the bears, wolves that await the unsuspecting
shopper and...well, you get the picture.

And, to top it all off, a couple of years ago we got a Wal-Mart.  So.
You've been warned.  Visit at your own risk.
