sigh

After being afraid to so much as breathe in the server's general direction for two weeks, I decided to start over, create a new server, reinstall everything from scratch.

  • Created new server

  • 2 GB memory instead of 1 GB (costing me $20/month instead of $10/month)

  • Ubuntu 14.04 instead of Ubuntu 16.04 as recommended in installation wiki

  • Name = atcmuseum, IP = 132.148.66.239

  • Downloaded and run automated installation script

  • Changed cspace pass

  • Started server: $CSPACE_JEESERVER_HOME/bin/startup.sh

  • Verified core installation runs with default login, verified appearance of term lists

  • Followed instructions to remove port number from URLs...that didn't work, nevermind. Did *not* remove the edits, server still loads.

  • Next up: Following instructions at https://wiki.collectionspace.org/display/DOC/Creating+your+new+tenant

  • Verified ability to create new records.

  • Shutdown server.

  • Short name = atcmuseum, URL = museum.atcwicca.org, tenant ID = 3

  • NOTE: Instructions here say the directory should be "$HOME/collectionspace-source", in fact it is "$HOME/cspace_source"

  • NOTE: Instructions here suggest verifying XML element "<tenantid>" in application/tomcat-main/src/main/resources/atcmuseum-tenant.xml is set appropriately. Tag doesn't exist at all. I am adding it as follows at the top of the file after the "<version>" tag: <tenantid>3</tenantid>

  • Verified installation runs, AND THE TERM LISTS ARE MISSING

That's it. I haven't done anything else to this brand-new server, I didn't even make the one configuration change to a controlled list that we need in order to import our previous library data, didn't create any users, nothing. You can see in the notes where I found discrepancies between what the instruction wiki page says and what I found. I hope somebody can help me fix this. I am a volunteer on this project, I only get a few hours a week to work on it, and the fact that it's been in "troubleshooting/installation" phase for literally months is driving us all crazy, we just want it to work. I am on the east coast of the United States, GMT -4 right now, and I can Skype with somebody on this generally between 7pm and 10pm Eastern Daylight Time (GMT -4), although as it happens I am free for the rest of today and could be available all day tomorrow and Sunday.

Thank you.

Hi Elayne,

Oof. That sounds massively frustrating.

I'm hoping that you're now really close to getting this working. Thanks
for your report re corrections to the docs; we'll have a look and fix any
errors you've pointed out.

One quick question: have you already visited the URL that initializes the
terms in a new tenant?

https://wiki.collectionspace.org/display/DOC/Initializing+data

In your case, you'd substitute "atcmuseum" for "core", in the first URL
shown on that page ...
