At times the gulls have been feeding or roosting in the fields on either side of Purchase Brook Road at Mitchell Farm. Please do not trespass on Mitchell Farm, or get out of cars on River Road west of intersection with Purchase Brook (signs posted to remain in vehicle). Traffic on River Road can travel fast. Stratford, Short Beach -- morning; at least 26 Snow Buntings. From John Oshlick: 01/30/14 - Stratford, Birdseye Boat Ramp -- 1 Red-necked Grebe swam up the river. It was still present at dusk when I left but far up river. Also 1 American Pippit, and a Snowy Owl across the river on an osprey platform. From Mike Warner: 01/30/14 - Stratford, Birdseye Boat Ramp -- Around 2:30 PM I saw a Red-necked Grebe less than 100 feet off the Birdseye boatramp shoreline, diving and feeding as the outgoing tide carried it down river. I relocated to Beacon Point Road and after a shortwhile it came into view doing the same until I lost sight of it behind the rock jetty. Also seen, Wilson's Snipe.
