I really didn't mean to start a major uproar about this subject.

Being a rag man for 30 years and only a stink pot for 2 years I just wanted
to comment
On a minor irritant that I sometimes ran into from South America to the U.S.
harbors.

I guess it just would be nice to consider that there are others out there on
moorings,
Or at anchor that may be uncomfortable with diesel smells and the noise.
Open hatches at dark certainly indicate that the folks on the boat are
looking for
Some breeze down below.

In many areas of the Trades you DO NOT get wind shifts except for
storms/fronts of some type
You point mostly in the same direction 24/7.  Obviously it would be nice to
anchor
Downwind of the folks with open hatches ... In practical matters many of
these boats
Have been there for some time and will remain for some time.  Some of the
best
Spots have been taken and you must try to fit in where you can.

Harbors like Marathon (boot Key) have constant shifts. At anchor you will
twist twin roads
Up many times in two weeks.  Nice to have the moorings - but they are close
and you
Take what is available and offered.  Summer 25 years ago the harbor was
almost
Empty but NO LONGER.  AGAIN. . A plea from a retired rag man.. After your
First tot and letting the engines cool down a little, try a little quiet and
look around at your
Neighbors. Possibly an OLD white haired ragman may share some information
that
May be of assist in your travels.

Hope to see you out there soon.  Will be heading towards Puerto Rico from
Pensacola by
Mid April in my OLD FAT 43 DeFever Moonshine.

Regards,
Capt. Rich Wittig
