Tacoma
Performing Dance Company welcomes you to this season’s production of “The
Nutcracker Ballet”. We invite the
young.... and the young at heart.... to enjoy the enchanting story of Clara and
her Nutcracker Prince. Choreographed and
staged by Artistic Director Jo Emery, this traditional holiday ballet is full
of sugarplums and dancing delights.
The Tacoma Performing Dance Company will
present its annual classic “The Nutcracker Ballet”, Tacoma’s Finest Holiday Tradition at the Stadium High School
Performing Arts Center located in Tacoma’s Historic Stadium District at 111
North E Street, Tacoma. Saturday, December 21st at 2:00 and 7:00pm
and Sunday, December 22nd at 2:00 and 6:00pm. Tickets are available by calling the TPDC Ticket Line

The
2013 production features new choreography and staging by Artistic Director Jo
Emery, Amity Howell-Sloboda, and Jean Milano. Costume design is by Tracy
McGowen, sets are designed by Patti Graham.
Professional
guest artist will be Isaiah Sumler, dancing the role of the Cavalier partnering
the Sugar Plum Fairy danced by Gabby Beardemphl. Sumler is currently in the Company C
Contemporary Ballet in Walnut Creek, California and will return to his home
town Tacoma for this appearance. He
trained with Jo Emery and went onto scholarship training at the Rock School in
Pennsylvania. Beardemphl trained at the Rock School as well this past summer
and is a senior at Stadium High School.
Performing
the role of Young Clara is Nadia Glaude and Fritz is Aramis Bentine Barreto. The
Nutcacker is danced by Benny Sisson. Herr Drosselmeyer will be performed
by Art Ward and Roy Stevens will portray the Rat King. Amity Kernen and Lesley Barrett will share the
role of Snow Queen. Toni Cox, Savanah
McGowen, Maddie Porter and Carrie Hatley are the Arabian Dancers, Diane
Holmstrom and Ted Schmidt will perform the Spanish Variation. Roy Stevens, Paige Suttich and Dara Hanson are
the Chinese Dancers. Katarine Mead and
Amity Howell-Sloboda share the role of Mother Ginger and Molly McVicker and
Mari Thiersch dance the role of Dew Drop Fairy. Anna Herron is featured as the
lead in Marzipan. Over 125 dancers
will perform in Tacoma Performing Dance Company's 2013 Nutcracker.
Appearing in the two act holiday classic are children from the Jo Emery Ballet
School, who portray Party Children, Dancing Mice, Clara's Friends and Ginger
Children.

Convention Center on Sunday, December 8th at 1:30 p.m.

Long a holiday tradition in the Stadium district, Tacoma Performing Dance Company’s Nutcracker Ballet debuts with four performances on Saturday Dec 12th 2 and 7 pm and Sunday Dec 13th 2 and 6 pm.

The production is staged by Artistic Director Jo Emery with additional choreography by Jean Milano and Amity Howell-Sloboda. Three designer backdrops created by Pacific Studio and Patti Graham enhance this lavish production featuring over 100 dancers in three acts. Wardrobe Mistress Tracy McGowen oversees the many and varied costumes ranging from children’s costumes in the party scene to classical tutus in the Snow scene and Grand Pas des Deux and exotic costumes for the traditional variations in the Kingdom of Sweets.
Leading roles in the 2015 production are Clara: danced by Dara Hanson and Shoshanna Schrenk, The Nutcracker: danced by Roy Stevens, Snow King and Cavalier: Chhay Mam, Sugar Plum Fairy: Anna Herron, Snow Queen: Bella Turco and Dew Drop Fairy: Amity Kernen.
Dancers from this production will appear at the Festival of Trees at the Tacoma Convention Center on Sunday, December 6th at 12:30 p.m.
