From Angela Dimmitt:
05/29/14 - New Milford yard -- Black-billed Cuckoo.
From Aidan Kiley:
05/29/14 - Fairfield, 58 Steiner St -- 1 Common Raven sitting on top
of the roof.
From Jim Pfeifer:
05/29/14 - Watertown -- I took a 20 minute walk this morning around
9:30 (5/29/14) down a CL&P Easement (Frost Bridge Easement I think)
which crosses Park Road. Very birdy, including a very, very
cooperative Lifer Hooded Warbler. I've been looking for one in CT for
years, and have always failed (heard but never seen) - had the bird
for 2-3 minutes singing and foraging on right side of the easement
looking north, about 1,000 feet north of Park Road. Also had eight
other warbler species.
From Mark Scott:
05/29/14 - Hamden, Farmington Canal Trail -- Mourning Warbler
seen/heard as of 10:30 AM near mile 3.9 of the canal trail. To get to
this spot would require a walk or bicycle ride of close to a mile from
the nearest parking area. Directions: find the "T" intersection of
Whitney Avenue and Sherman Avenue in Hamden. Take Sherman Avenue for
about a mile until you see a public parking lot on the left. It may be
marked for canal trail use. Park there; you will see the trail
adjacent to the lot. With your back to Sherman Avenue, follow the
trail to the right, which is south and in the direction of New Haven.
(Left is north and in the direction of Cheshire.) The trail curves to
the left and descends, then straightens out again. Look for a
fenced-off field to the left and a green metal bench to the right; and
also, the number "3.9" in blue paint on the canal pavement (it is
rather faded). Close to these landmarks the field ends and the woods
begin. There is also a sign here indicating that the field is
under video surveillance. The bird was found low in the greenery at
this field/woods edge. It was singing intermittently.
From John Marshall and Andy Stack:
05/29/14 - Shelton, Shelton Rec Path, Lane Street section -- 2
YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO early morning heard at the same time (jm),
BLACK-BILLED CUCKOO noon time heard and seen by Andy later heard by
John. All along the field southeast of the foot bridge.
From Judy Moore:
05/29/14 - Woodbridge, Woodbridge Community Gardens -- I had a
five-minute look at a Mourning Warbler Thursday morning. It was
working its way through the bushes at the north side of the far
gardens (below Chris's apple orchard) and sang a few times. What a
beauty!
From Paul Desjardins:
05/29/14 - Kent, Schaghticoke Road -- pair of Hooded Warblers.
From Paul Wolter:
05/29/14 - Branford, Branford Dump -- evening; an Olive-sided
Flycatcher in bare tree in a clearing. Not on the highest point, that
was taken by a Hummingbird.
From Frank Mantlik:
05/29/14 - Stratford, Long Beach/Long Beach West -- WHITE-RUMPED
SANDPIPER, Peregrine Falcon, 3 BOAT-TAILED GRACKLES.

05/29/14 - Naugatuck, Miller Drive -- Yellow-billed Cuckoo calling
near the end of the street.

05/29/14 - Greenwich, Audubon Center -- ORCHARD ORIOLE male continues
to sing regularly in area between nature center and orchard.
From Chris Elphick:
05/27/14 - Stonington, Barn Island WMA -- one of the students in my
lab (Emma Shelly) saw a Yellow-crowned Night-Heron at Barn Island, a
little unusual so far east.
(There's a photo on a new blog we've created to describe the ongoing
research on tidal marsh birds that my group and colleagues at several
other universities are doing. The blog is here - scroll down a few
