Thanks to the RC (and RC members Bob Shoemaker and Prateek Rishi) for organizing our first race of the season. With the RC boat not yet launched, they ably ran the race from a patrol boat. This was a practice race and won't count for our 2020 Wednesday Night Series. Since the restrictions around the bridge have been lifted, we've returned to fixed-mark courses we had in place over five years ago. Marks are further south, in particular "A" and "B" (the northwest marks) are out from the shadow of Hook Mountain, in what are now unfamiliar locations.
Launch service was prompt, and everyone observed the new restrictions, with quite a few boats at the docks to embark/disembark crew and provisions.
A beautiful night for a race, with SE winds blowing 10 to 12 kts at the 6:30 start and a flooding current. We had three Spinnaker division competitors, and five Non-Spinnaker. The RC started both division together, with the first signal promptly at 6:30 p.m. We raced course #10 -- to windward mark Gov't #8 by the TZ Marina, and then to leeward mark "A" for Spinnaker, and "B" for Non-Spinnaker. A few skippers struggled to find the leeward marks, but all but two completed the entire course within 75 minutes.
Everyone agreed that having a "practice" race was an opportunity to shake off the cobwebs, apply the season's SIs, and get ready for the real thing next week.
Hope to see more of you on the course Wednesday, June 24th, 6:30 p.m. start.

When you look at the NBC bulkhead, there appears to be many tasks remaining before sailing starts in Nyack. But, if you looked east last night, through the growing forest of masts in the mooring field, you'd see a familiar summer Wednesday night scene -- big boats racing!
