If what you are looking for as a portable, roll it up to the boat, use it,
and put it back in storage, kind of thing, Racor makes one. But I'm sure
it's going to be one of those "better have an industrial strength wallet"
kind of products. For some very basic information on it see:
http://www.parker.com/parkersql/default.asp?type=2&id=341
Unfortunately Parker (Racor's parent company) has one of the worst, most
difficult to navigate, web sites I've seen in a long time. I guess when you
have the brand name you don't have to make it easy for your customers to
get the information. :(

They are available for rental in the Seattle Area from Covach-Williams
Oil, the local Chevron distributor that serves the fishing fleet and
marine industry. I imagine it would be worth calling similar
businesses if you are in an area with similar industries.

On my boat is a 26 in prop with an unknown pitch. Im
supposed to have a 24 in with pitch of 20. I located a
prop that is 24 in but the pitch is 16. I called
aroudn a bit to see if I can get it repitched and was
told bringing it up to 20 was too much and couldnt be
done, at least not wihtout a strong possibility of it
breaking.
Now hte quesiton is if I purchase the 24 16 and put it
on as a main and use the 26 as a backup, will
performance suffer? How awful is it to be 4 degrees of
pitch off?

Dan:
20" - 16" = 4" X 200-300 (rpm diff. per/in. of pitch) == total 800 -
1200 RPM difference. Additionally, your reducing the diamater by 2" this is
also going to increase the RPM. I wouldn't do it.
Maybe if you tell us more about the boat, things like: WOT RPM, type/size
of boat, etc. we could maybe take a stab at it...jd

Dan..........why don't you see how the boat performs with the present prop
you may not need a different wheel. Check the max and cruise RPM. If you
need a change take the present prop to a prop shop, they can measure the
pitch and you will have a reference to work from.
Check with me after you get the performance numbers with the present prop
before you start spending money.
