View all threadsHello again everyone, it’s been a while. I’ve recently taken the CSpace 5.1 Core variant for a test drive and I’ve got a few questions pertaining to upgrading, adding reports and UI object template customization.
They are as follows:
1 – Can I upgrade CollectionSpace 5.0 to the current version or is re-installation on another VM and current data migration required?
We are currently using CollectionSpace Release 5.0, UI version 1.0.0-alpha.15, on an Ubuntu 18.04 Server virtual machine hosted on a VMware ESXi 6.5 hypervisor. It was installed with the “easy install” script on Ubuntu 16.04 then upgraded to 18.04 which worked very well.
2 - Is there a straightforward method to upgrade to CSpace 5.1 on an Ubuntu host system?
3 - Should I just create a new instance of Ubuntu Server and reinstall with the easy installer?
4 - Is there a current method to install CSpace 5.1 and can I obtain the documentation?
5 - Is there any current version documentation on altering the new object Standard Template and how to create additional custom templates?
6 - Is there any current version documentation on adding and integrating dynamic and canned reports into the UI?
Thank you all for your time and patience answering my questions, again I must tell you how happy I am to be involved with CSpace. It’s an awesome application with a wonderful bunch of folks supporting it.

Hi Ed,
If you used the automated installer to install 5.0 and you don't mind
running it again for 5.1, the easiest way would be to create a new vm, run
the automated installer again, and then copy over your database (and
customizations, if any) from the old vm. But if you don't learning some of
the manual installation steps, it's not too hard to install 5.1 over an
existing 5.0 installation. I can walk you through that if you'd like.
The installation instructions for 5.1 on Ubuntu are here:
https://wiki.collectionspace.org/display/DOC/Installing+on+Ubuntu+LTS
Documentation on modifying the UI templates (reordering fields) is here:
https://github.com/collectionspace/cspace-ui.js/tree/master/docs/configuration/HowTo.
I can add documentation for creating additional custom templates.
The report documentation is here:
https://wiki.collectionspace.org/display/DOC/How+to+add+and+run+reports.
There's definitely some stuff there that is out of date, but I think it's
still mostly correct.
Please bear with the state of the documentation for a bit longer; I'm
hoping to update/consolidate/rewrite everything over the next few months.
In the meantime, please continue to use this list for questions.
Thanks,
Ray
