Cell Phone Videos

As you can imagine I have been experimenting with cell phone videos.
Below is the link to my separate area on YouTube where I will post these
cell phone video clips. Keep in mind that the video quality is pretty
low, on the order of 175 x 130 pixels. There is sound, so I can narrate
whatever is going on. I have posted a test video which became available
a couple of minutes ago.

This seems a bit like a solution in search of a problem, but who knows
maybe a use can be found for all this HiTech foolery.

We head down the Columbia River this afternoon and up the Washington
Coast tomorrow, weather willing and the Ocean don't rise. I will see
about posting several short clips if I can find anything worth shooting.

My experimenting so far is not overwhelmingly positive. It's easy to get
the phone camera oriented on it's side. The pics are pretty jumpy if
there is any motion. Remember what lots of motion looks like off Cape
Mendocino. I don't know what this costs to upload from the phone, but I
think it is just airtime which I think is free after 9 pm. There are no
video credits, the title is pretty short and there is no explanation.

Check after about 9:30 pm PDT for the next few nights and I see what I
have found. Let me know what you think of the quality and sound. I
suppose the big thing will be if there is something exciting happening,
but if it does I ought to use the big camera. Now how do you hold 2
cameras at the same time?

Problems, problems.

I suppose we could setup a general place where T&T forum users could
upload cell phone videos to share. You tube needs a few enhancements to
better support this kind of activity. But, these improvements are well
within striking distance.

One use would be to record the scene of a engine problem and post it
then ask for suggestions as to how to trouble shoot the problem.

More some other day.

I did a fair number of videos like this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2gP88ZqLMxg - engine room check while
underway (noisy)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_MIW7Af2Krw - engine room walkthrough while
docked (quiet)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OK1eH7gnd5c - helm during a night watch
offshore

These were all done on my cell phone and then uploaded from the cell phone
to YouTube while on the boat.
