Thank you, Tracy--she was a gentle soul who found multiple ways to
remind many of us that we can in fact do accurate, interesting work
without being Mr. Big Scholar 24 hours a day. Those of us who study
giants of the past, and can be tempted to treat our research subjects as
gods, alter egos, idols with feet of clay, or cogs in a pontification
machine, might study how she approached Su Shi--as a knowable friend,
the way she treated all of us.  With her around, the ivory tower gained
a porch swing and a welcome mat. Let's keep it that way...

I am very sad to know that Kathleen has left us. Thank you for passing on
this message to us. Although I have only
met her a couple of times, in professional meetings, I remembered her as a
very warm person, with a pleasant personality.
