Dear Colleagues,
I am sad to announce passing of Sister Kathleen Tomlonovic, whom many of you knew. The field will miss her.
I hope this AAS will be an opportunity to share memories of her as well as to connect with friends old and new.
I look forward to seeing many of you in Denver.
Best wishes,
Tracy

Thank you, Tracy--she was a gentle soul who found multiple ways to
remind many of us that we can in fact do accurate, interesting work
without being Mr. Big Scholar 24 hours a day. Those of us who study
giants of the past, and can be tempted to treat our research subjects as
gods, alter egos, idols with feet of clay, or cogs in a pontification
machine, might study how she approached Su Shi--as a knowable friend,
the way she treated all of us. With her around, the ivory tower gained
a porch swing and a welcome mat. Let's keep it that way...
Yours

I am very sad to know that Kathleen has left us. Thank you for passing on
this message to us. Although I have only
met her a couple of times, in professional meetings, I remembered her as a
very warm person, with a pleasant personality.
I shall forever miss her.
Have a nice journey home, Kathleen, as the Chinese would say.
