Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The primary objective of the G. R. Little Library is to provide the intellectual growth resources necessary for the instruction and research needs of the students, faculty, staff and administrators of Elizabeth City State University. The mission of the library is to provide materials (print, non-print, as well as on-line databases) and services in support of educational programs of the university and, where possible, the educational needs of the Elizabeth City community. The acquisitioning, processing, arranging, storing and dispensing of the materials are performed with a single objective: to provide the library patron with the information requested and to provide an intellectual climate for academic growth.
Description of Work
The Information Literacy/Distance Education Librarian implements and assesses the delivery of library services to undergraduate and graduate students at ECSU. This position oversees the Library's Information Literacy services and coordinates Library services to Distance Education students. The Librarian, in collaboration with library staff and faculty, is responsible for designing, teaching and promoting information literacy.
Competencies/Knowledge Skills, and Abilities Required in this Position
Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and oral, and the ability to interact pleasantly, constructively, and cooperatively with students and staff in a culturally diverse academic environment.
Possess the flexibility to adapt to change and a strong commitment to helping students learn and succeed. Possess the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with library faculty, staff, students, and the user community.
Possess a thorough knowledge of online resources and services and their importance to university students. Possess knowledge and experience in the skills necessary for academic research and database searches.
Familiarity with best practices in instruction and assessment, including classroom instruction and web-based offerings, and developing course content.
Experience in making presentations to students and professionals.
Possess strong analytical problem-solving and decision-making skills. Demonstrate knowledge of library policies, procedures, and service standards.
Minimum Training and Experience
A Master's Degree in Library Science or its equivalent Masters from a program accredited by the American Library Association. 1-2 years of professional experience in an academic library. Instructional Experience, including experience designing and leading instructional activities that range from first-year programs to course-integrated support for graduate and research programs Preferred
