Marina Coral is fairly nice, although its a bit north of town.  There's
a newer "Cruiseport Village" downtown...

2 marinas in Ensenada:

Coral, a bit north of town. Upside: associated with a nice resort and
you have use of the facilities if you lease a slip. Restaurant/bar,
gym, spa, pool etc steps away if you want it.
Downsides: not walking distance into town, although the marina will
happily shuttle you. Also has more surge, nothing that sturdy lines
and a couple of good ball fenders can't handle.

And Cruiseport, in town. Upside: walking distance to town. Downsides:
the giant cruise ships dock here (hence the name), in case you're not
up for that atmosphere. Also Coral is where you'd be going for fuel.

I've stayed in both, both seem like nice facilities, secure and with
pleasant staffs. Coral may be a bit more $ but not by much I don't
think.

There's also one much further north of town, that's less expensive
and also seems rather dumpy, called La Salina.

Here's a link to a repring out of Power Cruising
Magazine from a couple years ago on Ensenada (its a
big file, and slow to load - especially if there's a
crowd from PUP. Be patient).

http://seaskills.com/files/EnsenadaReprintArticle.pdf

Cruiseport is right downtown - an easy walk to all the
restaurants and shops. Its a new marina, nice docks,
and very convenient.

Marina Coral is not very close to anything, though
there are shuttles into town. If you like to hang out
on your boat in a very gringo 'resort' environment,
its the place to be.

Baja Naval has some docks - right downtown. Rickety
docks, and perhaps a little 'quaint,' it's tough to
get dock space. Free wi-fi.

La Salina is new and is literally a cut through a
beach. It's been a couple years since I was there, but
it is a long way north of town. The marina seemed to
be built as a marketing tagline to a condo
development. Not very interesting nor convenient,
though it may get some overflow when the other marinas
are full.

Pretty sure that's the whole selection. Personally, I
like Cruiseport - hands-down, due to convenience.

Hi Peter and everyone,

I'm only prolonging this thread because, due to the FUBAR rally later
this year, the topic is of interest I'm sure to some of the folks on
this list who will be staying there. Others can skip on by...

I don't think the characterization of Coral as a 'gringo resort' is
entirely accurate. Upscale, certainly. But not white American in
particular. It is a Mexican resort. Of course, many of the (gringo)
yachties make their way from the docks into the bar and restaurant
each day. But the line of folks we'd see on Sunday mornings waiting
for brunch was almost exclusively locals. Conversations around the
pool and in the gym I found were >50% in Spanish. Weddings are
common, again locals; charity events, weekly service club meetings,
all community based. So this is not a resort where the only local
faces you'll see belong to the staff. Far from it.

That said, we solicited feedback from many people who'd stayed at one
or the other marina and without exception people were very happy with
their choice, whichever site they opted for. Both are popular, for
good reasons.
