From Frank Mantlik:
07/15/14 - Milford, foot of Sailor's Lane -- 2:06 PM; adult AMERICAN
AVOCET sleeping out in marsh by itself along edge of a channel. Tide
is dead high. Spotting scope definitely needed. Sailor's Lane is off
Housatonic Rd at north side of large Milford saltmarsh.
From Sara Zagorski with Angela Dimmitt:
07/15/14 - Sherman, Wimisink Marsh -- we observed the adult American
Bittern and 3 youngsters this morning from 7:40 AM to 9:30 AM. The 2
younsters were on the tussock island, but the 3d younster was by
itself in the grass behind and further left of the other two. Maybe it
was voed off the island? :) The adult was close by, and we watched it
hunt and eat a frog. All appears to be well.
