Hi everyone,

Things are running fast and furious here in the days leading up to our meeting and event next week. I just wanted to take a minute to update everyone on where we are with everything.
We got off to a bit of a late start, but it appears that once again we’ll have both Senate and House resolutions recognizing AELF Week. Thanks to Deborah for stepping in and moving that process along.
We have had a few organizations send us press releases and other materials related to AEFL week activities. Would someone be interested in volunteering to summarize what we’ve gathered so far into a blog post? Let me know and I’ll forward you (or point you to) what we have so far.
Very good news on the event: both Senator Reed and Congressman Hinojosa plan to attend. Even more importantly, two of his staff members who have been among our strongest supporters on the Hill for many years, Rosa Garcia (currently back in Hinojosa’s office) and Moira Lenehan-Razzuri (former staff, now working for Sen. Reed) will be there.
We need volunteers to serve as presenters at the awards event. I think there is an expectation from Sen. Reed’s office that I will be presenting his award. The rest are up for grabs. First dibs go to board members.
We need to figure out what to present to Congressman Hinojosa as a thank-you. (He has already received a leadership award from us.) Suggestions?
Gabe Martinez has confirmed that he will again serve as our official photographer and possibly videographer for the event.
We have just 23 RSVPs to the event next week so far. That is remarkably low compared to past events, and kind of odd since Ellen and I have put more effort into outreach this year. Especially for those of you here in the DC area, please distribute the invitation to your networks. For the record, in addition to my usual distribution list, we’ve sent the invitation to the following lists:
Hispanic Education Coalition
EL-SEC (elementary and secondary ed folks)
LEARN (leaders in literacy)
Fritzwire
CEF
The award trophies themselves have been ordered. I’ll check tmw about when they will be ready to be picked up.
Our member meeting agenda is still very rough. I have tentative confirmation from some folks from HHS to come and talk about TANF and WIOA. We’ll have a presentation from the Institute for the Study of Adult Literacy & the Goodling Institute, and a few short “mini-presentations” from other members. Still have some feelers out there. Just occurred to me today that this would be a good time to re-connect with Rachel and Marcie on SNAP E&T, but not sure that they could do it on such short notice. But I’ll ask. Any other ideas? I am assuming we’ll want an hour or more to talk over organizations issues, maybe more. We can talk about that at our meeting Monday.

I’ll send a member update tonight as well and try to send another update for you all tomorrow.

Thanks,
Jeff

Hi everyone,
Jeff – I’ll have time tonight or tomorrow morning to write the blog post, so feel free to send that info to me. Should I send the rough draft to everyone when it’s done?

Thanks Christy! I will create an account for you in Wordpress and email you what we have. If you’ve never used WordPress, there is an orange help button at the bottom lower left.

You can actually save it as a draft in Wordpress and just let us know when you want someone to review it.

Hi Deborah,

Yes — what Deborah is referring to is a photo from the original meeting of the caucus, back in 2011? 2012? Can’t remember. Was thinking we could frame that with a card  — something we could all sign on Tuesday. I should have mentioned that. What does everyone think of that idea?

That is remarkably low compared to past events, and kind of odd since Ellen and I have put more effort into outreach this year. Especially for those of you here in the DC area, please distribute the invitation to your networks. For the record, in addition to my usual distribution list, we’ve sent the invitation to the following lists: >> Hispanic Education Coalition >> EL-SEC (elementary and secondary ed folks) >> LEARN (leaders in literacy) >> Fritzwire >> CEF >> The award trophies themselves have been ordered.
